Mimbres/Anasazi Replication Bowl (The World)

US$150.00

1150 A.D.   The extinct Mimbres culture is now best known for the fantastic pictures of nature they painted upon small to medium-sized ceramic bowls which depicted the natural world that surrounded them.  This bowl is a reproduction of a fantastic rendition of a variety of fauna and flora. Represented upon its surface are the recognizable motifs of an antelope, lion, fish, bird, flower and additional symbolism depicting astronomical, terrestrial, cloud, lightning, the night sky and probably other marks that are no longer decipherable by our modern society. Within this bowl the elements of earth, water, air, and fire are strongly represented in an interaction of design and harmony. I believe this bowl is a depiction of the “Creation” of the world or at least is a celebration of it.  The bowl was reproduced using traditional techniques and processes which rendered its surface with rich fire clouds and a smoky patina. The replication was made at Starling Black Studio in Arizona. Original Mimbres bowls are few and far in between and it is a rare collector who is fortunate to own one. And if indeed one is located the price is usually prohibitive. Most of us must travel several miles to an antiquities museum to see these wonderful pieces of art. Replication pottery is an available and affordable alternative to anyone with an appreciation for this prehistoric art. This bowl was made to appear as an original artifact, and I believe you will be pleased with its authentic feel and appearance. If you enjoy the rawness of artifacts and have a love for prehistoric art from extinct cultures you will not be disappointed with this bowl, “The World”.
