Anasazi Mimbres Hummingbird with Flower Bowl Replica

US$75.00

Hundreds of years ago a culture existed in the southwestern deserts of North America that celebrated the natural world that surrounded them by painting incredible renditions of wildlife and their activities upon small to medium sized ceramic bowls. This extinct culture is now known as the Mimbres and are believed to be an offshoot of the Anasazi. Because of geographic isolation their art took a divergent path which was not only fantastic, but wonderful. The designs rendered upon these bowls where highly stylized and often abstracted. This bowl is an inspired replication which features a hummingbird upon final approach to a flower bloom. The design is delightful, whimsical, and amazingly modern.  The bowl was handmade and painted with homemade brushes from the yucca plant. A pit firing of juniper wood rendered upon its surface a warm smoky patina which is rich with fire clouds. The result is simply stunning. Replicated in the White Mountains of Arizona by Starling Black Studio, Starling Black strives for authenticity in his work.
